1. Information We Collect
When you use LocationFound, we may process the following data:
- IP address of visitors: Used to display your own IP address information on the homepage. Not stored beyond the current session.
- IP addresses you look up: Passed to our upstream data provider (ipwhois.app) to retrieve geolocation data. We do not store the history of IPs you look up.
- Server logs: Standard web server logs including IP, timestamp, and request path. Retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
2. How We Use Data
We use collected data to: provide the IP lookup service, prevent abuse and rate limit excessive API usage, and monitor server health and security. We do not use your data for behavioral advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose.
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- ipwhois.app: Geolocation data provider. See their privacy policy at ipwhois.app/privacy.
- Google Maps: Used for map visualization. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts: Typography delivery. Google may log font requests.
4. Cookies
LocationFound does not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. We may use a minimal session cookie for basic functionality. No third-party advertising cookies are placed.
5. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Under applicable privacy laws, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Since we do not maintain user accounts or persistent profiles, most requests can be addressed by noting that we do not store lookup history.
6. Data Retention
Server access logs: up to 30 days. No user account data is stored as we do not have user accounts.
